Your Frequently Asked Questions on Cancer Care

What services does in-home cancer care include?

In-home cancer care is tailored to each person’s unique needs during treatment or recovery. Services can include personal care, such as assistance with bathing, grooming, and dressing when fatigued, nutritional support such as preparing meals that meet dietary recommendations, help with mobility around the house, and transportation to treatments or medical appointments. Caregivers also offer comfort and companionship during difficult days, monitor for general wellness (noticing changes in condition), and can provide respite breaks for family caregivers. Essentially, we handle everyday tasks and provide emotional support so patients and families can focus on healing.

Are caregivers specially trained to support cancer patients?

Yes, our caregivers receive comprehensive training before caring for clients with cancer. They are taught about the common side effects and challenges cancer patients may experience (like fatigue, nausea, or mobility limitations) and how to assist safely and sensitively. We also strive to match each client with a caregiver whose skills and personality fit the family’s needs – whether that’s someone experienced in post-surgical care, managing dietary restrictions, or simply providing uplifting encouragement. This ensures you have a knowledgeable, empathetic caregiver who understands what you’re going through and can adapt care as conditions change.

What support is available for family caregivers?

Caring for a loved one with cancer can be physically and emotionally exhausting for family members. That’s why our Cancer Care program also emphasizes respite and family support. We can step in to provide care for a few hours (or longer) to give family caregivers a much-needed break to rest and recharge. Our team is flexible – you might use respite care during medical appointments, overnight for uninterrupted sleep, or on a regular schedule each week. By sharing the caregiving duties, families can reduce burnout and stress, because caring for yourself enables you to continue caring for your loved one.
