Companions play in providing the extra support seniors need during periods of cold, snowy weather.
Early this week, Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) introduced the Home Care for Seniors Act (S.3261), which is the companion to HR2878 in the House.
The bill amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow qualified distributions from health savings account for certain home care expenses. "Qualified home care" includes a contract to provide three or more of the following services in the residence of the service recipient: assistance with eating, assistance with toileting, assistance with transferring, assistance with bathing, assistance with dressing, assistance with continence, and medication adherence.
The Department of Health and Human Services must carry out a campaign to increase public awareness of the in-home service expenses that are eligible for tax-free distribution from HSAs.
The compassionate care from SYNERGY HomeCare for Jeff's mom as she entered hospice made all the difference
"It was truly a blessing that we found SYNERGY. The caregivers were trained in caring for dementia patients and were able to work with my mother, while another company just wasn't able to do the job. The caregivers are excellent. Savka, in particular, took the time to read the Bible to my mom daily, which was very important to her. They were extremely compassionate towards the end when my mom was approaching hospice and did everything possible to make her comfortable. Milena was frequently rubbing my mom's back and shoulders to help her ease discomfort. Kayla was always positive and attentive. Overall, great care! Thanks to Ruth and her team, my mom was able to pass away peacefully in her home! Truly blessed to have had the SYNERGY team!" Jeff

“We know ongoing education and training not only improve the quality of care we provide our clients,” according to Ruth Busalacchi, owner, SYNERGY HomeCare, “they contribute to the success of our caregivers and their job satisfaction.”
Our caregivers are not required by law to be CNA certified. Approximately 60% of SYNERGY HomeCare's caregivers are CNA certified. Caregivers who are not certified and who have been employed with SYNERGY HomeCare for at least a year are now eligible to apply for a tuition grant to attend CNA training. Applicants are required to write an essay including why they are applying for the grant, how they will use the knowledge they gain, and why they should be awarded the grant. The grant recipient will, among other things, be expected to continue employment for at least two years. The grant is awarded annually.
“It’s OK to hang up”, was Bob’s response when asked what he learned after SYNERGY HomeCare presented a senior scams program at his independent living community in Greenfield, WI. That is a popular response from seniors in other communities and senior centers where the program has been offered.
Seniors don’t want to be rude and they fear the repercussions of hanging up. That’s what scammers count on. The longer they can keep you on the phone, the greater the likelihood is they’ll get you to share personal and financial information.
To learn more about senior scams, including the IRS Scam and the Grandparents Scam, and to schedule a presentation, contact Enid at 414-763-8368.
“I can’t wait to share this information with my friends,” said Lorrie after a presentation at her senior center. “They need to know about the Grandparent’s Scam and that they shouldn’t open suspicious emails with links and attachments.”

"SYNERGY has been wonderful to work with. Their quick response to provide 24 hour care to our loved one was exceptional. We found the management team to be so easy to work with and responsive. Thank you for the service you have provided in our time of need."
"The staff and caregivers are very caring and understanding."
"I would recommend the caregivers SYNERGY HomeCare has sent us to anybody. SYNERGY HomeCare's company provides quality services."
"I just want to share with you my experiences over the past 2 years in working with Ruth Busalacchi of our local Synergy office. I am the administrator of an independent and assisted living community with over 165 residents. We have had numerous examples over the past year where our residents have experienced a sudden change in condition in which they needed more support. Sometimes the support was available through our assisted living services and at other times, it was needed instead of or in addition to our services. In every instance, every, Ruth and her team was able to implement services as quickly as was needed, up to and including same day. In every situation, I had no doubt that Ruth would support us in delivering a consistent message to our families on the options available to them. Her sense of partnership is evident; her sense of responsibility for the well being of the resident is always clear; and the integrity with which she works consistent. In addition, she is always open to feedback on the staff provided, which has resulted in a great working relationship with our facility and positive feedback from our families. I look forward to continuing to work with Ruth and her staff in the future, as she has been an outstanding partner in ensuring our residents have the most appropriate solutions in place. "I would be lost without SYNERGY HomeCare. I depend on them entirely."
"When my Dad came home from the Rehab Center, Ruth and Sarah spent 3 hours showing me how to help my Dad transfer in and out of bed, etc so I could help him when they weren't around. I learned more in those three hours than in all of my years helping my Dad!"
"I would recommend SYNERGY HomeCare because they are reliable and hardworking."
"SYNERGY HomeCare is a compassionate agency that will do everything that they can to help a family navigate the waters of incorporating home care into their lives. Each step of the way, no question was unanswered and they were always kind and helpful providing insight and guidance. The caregivers were also compassionate, patient and kind."
"SYNERGY HomeCare sends very nice caregivers to take care of my brother. That allows me to not have to be with him all the time."
"SYNERGY HomeCare is the best company we looked at."
"SYNERGY HomeCare makes my life easier by allowing me to do what I need to do without worrying about my husband."
