Q. How do medical alarms work?
A. A medical alert system, or Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS), allows an individual to signal for help from a wireless alarm pendant. The system alerts a customer care center operator who will be immediately connected to the monitoring unit in the home and talk to the client to dispatch the appropriate help. In the event of an injury or emergency, the local 911 Emergency Response Team is dispatched. Otherwise a family member, neighbor, friend or caregiver can be notified for assistance.
Q. How do I obtain a free medical alarm?
A. We will work with you to determine which alarm is best for your particular needs. You can learn more about medical alarm options here.
Q.What is included in SYNERGY’s free home safety survey?
A. Prior to the start of service, the SYNERGY CARE Team will walk through the client’s home with the client and his or her family to look for potential hazards. Common dangers include old or broken smoke detectors, scalding water temperatures, inadequate lighting, and faulty or absent handrails.
According to SYNERGY HomeCare research, falls are the No. 1 cause of injuries, hospital visits and deaths among those 65 and older. In fact, an older adult is treated in an emergency room for a fall every 15 seconds and every 29 minutes, an older adult dies as a result of or complications from a fall.
SYNERGY wants to curb this growing problem so we use the home safety survey to identify hazards that could cause someone to fall and then make recommendations for eliminating them. Our recommendations may include:
