Every year, 90,000 Americans are newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). It’s the second-most common neurodegenerative disease in the world, second only to Alzheimer’s disease according to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. In 2022 there were just under one million cases in the U.S., and by 2030 that number is projected to reach 1.2 million.
Chances are, you or someone you know is affected by Parkinson’s Disease. Despite its prevalence though, few care providers are specifically educated to help those affected.
In order to address this gap, SYNERGY HomeCare has joined the Parkinson’s Foundation Community Partners in Parkinson’s Care, which is a membership program and esteemed distinction that provides quality education and tools to senior living communities and home care agencies to better equip them to care for people living with the disease.
The program provides a full curriculum of PD education through both virtual and in-person training to the majority of the staff at each participating location. These lessons teach caregivers the best practices for movement, non-movement and cognitive symptom management, which includes the most common issues for those living with the disease.
As of today, nine SYNERGY HomeCare locations have already trained their staff using the resources provided by the program.
Before joining the membership program, SYNERGY HomeCare was already very familiar with helping families affected by Parkinson’s Disease. The franchise worked with healthcare professionals and long-tenured Parkinson’s care experts to create an all-encompassing specialized care program, specifically tailored to helping those with PD. The program acts as a guide for both caregivers and family members to understand what the disease entails and what to expect.
Now with the additional support of the Parkinson’s Foundation Community Partners in Parkinson’s Care program, SYNERGY HomeCare employees are better equipped than ever to help their clients. Going forward, caregivers will be educated and up to date on the latest advances in research, treatment and understanding of Parkinson’s Disease.
If you or a loved one is affected by Parkinson’s Disease, you can feel confident that you’ll receive a best-in-class, personalized care plan when you call SYNERGY HomeCare.
