SYNERGY HomeCare of Charleston was started by Michael and Kayleigh Risk, Mark and Lisa Piegza and Bob and Melissa Risk, with a mission to provide outstanding care to our fellow residents of the Charleston area while creating a collegial and rewarding work environment for our team members. Mark and Bob are veterans of the home care business as owners of Synergy Homecare of the Lowcountry, based in Hilton Head, SC. They have received the prestigious Best of Home Care- Provider of Choice award from Home Care Pulse for each of the two years they have been in operation.
We understand that when family members take on the daily duties of caregiving, it often compromises the relationships we have with our loved ones. Daily life becomes more of a chore and we lose the ability to enjoy our time together. At SYNERGY HomeCare of Charleston, we change lives by providing great care to all of our clients, no matter their age and wherever they or their loved ones call home.
Michael and Kayleigh’s Story
Michael and Kayleigh have devoted their lives to putting family first and providing compassionate care to their aging loved ones. Prior to Kayleigh’s 12th birthday, her grandmother was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease that required her to move in with her family and receive 24/7 care. As the oldest child, Kayleigh often helped with bathing, clothing, and feeding her grandmother, who was quickly losing all mobility. This experience is what drove Kayleigh to pursue a career in nursing. After receiving her bachelor’s in nursing in 2010 she went on to become an Oncology Nurse working in both inpatient and outpatient environments. Michael has spent the last decade in the insurance industry and has always been the pillar of strength for his family and community. When his grandparent’s health started to inhibit their ability to safely live independently in their rural home, Michael moved them into his home where he and Kayleigh could provide the daily care they needed. Whether it was trips to the VA hospital for appointments, grocery shopping, or spending quality time with them Michael felt blessed to have had the opportunity to help them live as fully as possible and with the dignity that comes from true caring. These experiences have helped guide Michael and Kayleigh to devote their lives to helping others and providing that same personal care for their fellow residents of the Charleston area.
Mark and Lisa’s Story
Mark and Lisa developed a passion for providing quality care from seeing their own parents struggle with various health issues. We have provided care directly to our parents and have also worked diligently to find quality outside care. After moving to the Lowcountry, we wanted to find a way to help the community and we determined that providing great home care was exactly the way we could best give back.
Bob and Melissa’s Story
After 25 years in the insurance industry, Bob and Melissa are beginning their “Second Act” utilizing their skills to ensure exceptional care of those wanting and needing to be independent. Currently, Bob’s 92-year-old father receives 24/7 care, and Melissa’s mother resides with them seven months a year. This business is very personal to both of them and they look forward to helping make SYNERGY HomeCare of Charleston a company that truly changes lives.

Mark and Lisa Piegza | Owners
Mark and Lisa developed a passion for providing quality care to families after seeing their own parents struggle with various health issues. Although they provided care for their parents often, they also tried to find quality non-medical in-home care to give them a break, which wasn't always easy to find.
After moving to the Lowcountry, Mark and Lisa wanted to find a way to help the community and determined that providing dependable and compassionate home care was exactly the way they could best give back to others. They knew first hand what it's like to be the sole caregiver for a loved one.
Bob and Melissa Risk | Owners
After 25 years in the insurance industry, Bob and Melissa began their "second act." With transferable skills from their previous adventure, providing exceptional care for others who are aging or limited by illness became their calling.
Bob's 92-year-old father currently receives 24/7 care, and Melissa's mother resides with them seven months a year. They either provided care or managed their care for many years. Their parents became Bob and Melissa's unintentional beacon that guided them into non-medical home care in the Lowcountry.
They realized that helping people age with grace and independence in their own homes is where Bob and Melissa wanted to focus. This business is very personal to each of them and they look forward to helping make SYNERGY HomeCare of the Lowcountry an organization that truly changes lives.
