Mildred Edgerton couldn't reach the higher branches on her 6-foot artificial Christmas tree. So Edgerton, 87, stuck primarily to the middle branches, hanging the bells and bulbs that her family has collected for decades.
The ornaments hold the memories Edgerton cherishes, and this year, she got to share their origins with someone new.
Arelia Corbett hung ornaments on the higher branches, chatting about Christmas traditions and taking notice of unique ornaments Edgerton collected over the years for her grandchildren.
The tree decorating was part of the "elf" duties for Corbett, a certified nursing assistant for Synergy Home Care, who has been helping Edgerton for about nine months.
Usually, Synergy aides take care of light household chores and nonmedical care for those who need assistance. Mostly, they provide help with activities of daily living. Synergy also employs some nurses who do provide medical assistance.
