13893609-mmmainSanta isn’t the only one getting help from a team of elves this holiday season. SYNERGY HomeCare, a national in-home care provider with an office in Jersey City, will be helping several Hudson County seniors this winter through their Elders’ Elves program.

In the program, caregiver “elves,” who usually help seniors live independently in their own homes year-round, will pitch in to help their patient-clients with holiday tasks like shopping for gifts, wrapping presents, writing cards and trimming the trees.

Co-owner and director of client relations Casey Holstein, who lives in South Orange but has roots in Union City and North Bergen, says some caregivers have even traveled with senior clients on family vacations to Florida and Puerto Rico.

“It’s about treating people how they deserve to be treated and providing love to them, even through small, simple things. It can be helping them go to the bathroom, get changed, or get a warm meal. Or helping write a card. This generation is not technologically savvy, for better or worse, and these are people for whom a Christmas card means so much.”

Several of the company’s caregivers have already helped Jewish clients observe Hanukkah, and by the end of the year Holstein they said they expect to help over 30 clients with their holiday tasks.

Aside from their Elders’ Elves program, SYNERGY HomeCare also reaches out to each client by sending them a card and a small gift to celebrate the season.

“We do this for our clients to take it a step further. It’s just about helping people,” said Holstein. “It’s all about respect, dignity and quality of life.”

SYNERGY HomeCare has served about 500 clients since it was founded five years ago. Throughout the year they offer several care packages to help seniors with health care appointments, morning routines, mealtimes and more.

At any given time the company has 15-to-20 different caregivers in Hudson County taking care or both adults and some child cases, according to Holstein. Rates range from $22 per hour for hourly help to $230 per day for live-in care. The company has bilingual and multi -cultural caregivers, Holstein said.
