Arms Around Family Caregivers Awards Pillar of Strength to Columbus Family

Arms Around Family Caregivers, a charitable program by Synergy HomeCare, today officially awards the "Pillar of Strength" award to longtime caregiver, Bill Hayes.

In September, 2010, the Arms Around family Caregivers blog invited the nation to share the stories of selfless services of people to their family members. The program, which provides resources for the 30% of Americans who help ailing family members, offered free caregiving education to any interested party and the chance to win 40 hours of respite care to the participant with the most community support.

The winner of this Pillar of Strength Award was Bill Hayes who lead the poll with 110 votes. In addition, there were 20 unique comments heralding Mr. Hayes’ resilience of character and charitable nature. Nominator Prudence McDaniel told the story of her brother-in-law’s decade-long dedication to the well being of his family.

Benefactors of Mr. Hayes’ service included his father-in-law, aunt-in-law, and father. Most recently he has provided care in his home for his wife, who passed away in October, 2008 and his mother-in-law, who passed away in December, 2010. Bill’s wife, former Wings of Justice winner, was previously recognized by Chicago Public Radio for her inspirational motivation to vote.

During the time of his wife’s and his mother-in-law’s battles with cancer, Bill adapted his home to their optimum care. His dining room became a makeshift hospital room, and his efforts were foced on keeping his family together during their time of need. The respite care he receives will assist himself and his two daughters to better adjust to life post-caregiving.

After over a decade of trials both physical and emotional, the family is interested in a fresh start. They plan to move into a new home this year. Assisting with the move is Two Men and A Truck of Columbus, Ohio. The professional moving company is donating a truck, two movers and moving equipment to the family when they relocate.

Synergy Homecare of Columbus owner Carol Richardon has a long relationship with the Hayes family, and is working with Bill and his daughters to ensure that their 40 hours of respite care is constructive and uplifting for them.

As Arms Around Family Caregivers is the flagship outreach program by Synergy HomeCare, the company is proud to extend respite services to Mr. Hayes and his family. To them, this award is well-deserved.

Arms Around Family Caregivers will hold an award ceremony for Mr. Hayes. Event details will be announced this week.
