Atlanta is rich in civil rights movement history. Check out what things you can do in and around Atlanta this month in celebration of Black History Month and in celebration of the amazing people of our community! We ourselves at Synergy Home Care North Atlanta will definitely be attending some of the fun parties and events!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Take the family to the Children\u2019s Museum of Atlanta<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Where: 275 Centennial Olympic Park Dr. NW, Atlanta<\/p>\n

When: Monday- Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Closed on Wednesdays)<\/p>\n

What: Throughout the month of February, the Children’s Museum of Atlanta will host Black History Month programs each day such as a mini-musical or a science show.<\/p>\n

Price: Tickets<\/a>\u00a0range from $13 to $19.<\/p>\n

Tour MLK, Jr. Birth Home<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Where: 501 Auburn Ave., Atlanta<\/p>\n

When: The home is open for tours on a daily basis with 30-minute tours. The first tour at 10:00 am and the last tour at 4:00 p.m. Tours are limited to 15 people. Try to visit early in the day and be prepared to wait several hours for the next available tour. Sunday mornings usually the best time to visit.<\/p>\n

What: The tiny house where Martin Luther King Jr. was born is the highlight of Atlanta\u2019s\u00a0Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site<\/a><\/strong>. On view during the guided tour: the quaint, antiquated kitchen where the King family meals were prepared; the postage-stamp of a backyard where Dr. King and his siblings frolicked; the immaculate parlor overlooking Sweet Auburn where guests were received; the formal dining room where family meals were prayed over; and the upstairs bedrooms – strewn with toys – where the King children were born and raised.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Take a Downtown History Tour<\/a><\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Where: ATL Playground, 84 Peachtree St., NW, Atlanta<\/p>\n

When: First and third Saturday of each month from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

What: Take the Downtown History Tour known as Atlanta from the Ashes. Learn all about Atlanta’s ties to the Civil Rights Movement, the growth of Coca Cola and other interesting facts about the Woodruff Park area.<\/p>\n

Admission: Free, but attendees must\u00a0register online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Visit the Center for Civil and Human Rights for free<\/a>!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Where: 100 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd., Atlanta<\/p>\n

When: January 28 \u2014 February 28, 2019.<\/p>\n

What: Throughout the month, there will be events focused on Black History.<\/p>\n

Feb. 26: PNC Bank is hosting a free event celebrating African Americans in the arts from 7:30-9:30 a.m.\u00a0You can register and learn more online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Admission: This year,\u00a0T<\/a>he Coca-Cola Foundation<\/a>, is offering free to the Center for Civil and Human Rights from<\/p>\n

\u00a0Tour the home of Atlanta’s first black millionaire<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Where: Herndon Home Mansion Museum, 587 University Place NW, Atlanta<\/p>\n

When: Every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tours run from 3-4 p.m.<\/p>\n

What: Tour the home of Alonzo Herndon, Atlanta’s first black millionaire. Alonzo Herndon was born into slavery on a plantation 40 miles east of the city in 1858 and toiled in sharecropper fields as a child after the Emancipation Proclamation. With meager means and tireless energy, Herndon made his way to Atlanta and established a chain of barbershops that catered to the state\u2019s men of influence. He parlayed his connections into a banking and life insurance empire that southern Blacks trusted in near exclusivity. \u00a0Its mission is to increase the awareness and appreciation of the significance of the Herndons, one of Atlanta’s most prominent black families, and the historical context in which they lived and worked.<\/p>\n

Admission: Tickets can be purchased online<\/a>\u00a0 $10 for adults, $7 for students, seniors and active duty military members.<\/p>\n

Celebrate at Roswell’s Festival of Black History and Culture<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What: Each year, the City of Roswell becomes the home of one of the largest Black History Month celebrations in Georgia. The event is described as a way to share in African American history while discovering more about the heritage, art, food, and contributions that define the culture.<\/p>\n

In addition, Lyft will be providing a free ride to an African-American history museum or black-owned business in cities across the country in honor of Black History month!\u00a0<\/p>\n

The code BHMATL19<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0will give users one Lyft ride up to $10 to or from one of the locations listed below. The discount expires at 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 28.<\/p>\n
